Once I was telling a friend about my romantic tragedies and she mentioned a graffiti she saw that said: “No es tu media naranja, es tu exprimidor”*. The first thing that came into my mind was Jesús Puente’s “Su Media Naranja”, a TV show in which single heterosexual people would participate in the hope of finding a romantic partner. As time went by, and as me and my friends have experienced the melodrama of romantic love, this quote has gained more and more relevance in my life.

“No es tu Media naranja, es tu Exprimidor” is a four-color hand printed zine with a fold-out poster. It consists of a collection of scenes representing the eternal drama of romantic love through using the “half orange” metaphor. A story about how what we call “love” can become such a raw, pathetic and humiliating emotional slaughter, in which we see two orange halves squeezing each other.

* “It’s not your other half, it’s your squeezer”. In Spanish culture, your so- called “other half” or “soulmate” is referred to as your “half orange”.
